MILL CREEK – The Mt. Lions traveled to Tygarts Valley on Wednesday January 27th. Tucker County used a big second quarter to build the lead and used a strong fourth quarter to run the lead to 23 points. The Mt. Lions got the road victory 72-57.
The Bulldogs came out strong and Tucker County looked flat after being idle for 11 days, but a strong push late in the first quarter gave Tucker County a 21-16 lead after one. The second quarter belong to the Mt. Lions as they held Tygarts Valley to 7 points and Tucker County scored 19 points to take a commanding 40-23 lead at the half.
The Bulldogs came out firing in the third as they scored 19 points in the period, but Tucker County scored 18 points in the stanza to make the score 58-42 after three quarters. The Mt. Lions then built a 23 point lead in the fourth before Tygarts Valley fought back. Tucker County would not let the comeback happen as the Mt. Lions controlled the game the rest of the way to take the victory 72-57.
WDTV Athlete of the week Seth Evans led Tucker County with 33 points, 23 rebounds and Ethan Crosten had 14 points, 11 assists, 5 rebounds. Skyler Humphrey scored 12 points and collected 5 rebounds and Josh Kincaid added 7 points in the Tucker County victory. Tygarts Valley was led by Ben Sycafoose with 24 points. The Mt. Lions JV team fell in the first game 58-56.
MOOREFIELD – The Tucker County Boys’ Basketball team traveled to Moorefield last Friday January 29th. The Mt. Lions came out strong early and never looked back as they ran away from the Yellowjackets to win 76-52.
Tucker County started the game strong on offense as they scored 19 points and held Moorefield to 6 points to lead after one 19-6. The Mt. Lions extended their lead in the second quarter as they outpaced the home standing Yellowjackets 18-13 to take a 37-19 advantage into the locker room at the half.
Tucker County extended their lead in the third with great defense again as they held Moorefield to 7 points in the quarter and Tucker County scored 21 points in the period to take a commanding 57-26 lead after three quarters. The Mt. Lions got the reserve players into the game in the fourth quarter and brought home the road victory 76-52.
Seth Evans led all scorers with 19 points, 8 rebounds and Ethan Crosten scored 17 points dished out 7 assists and collected 5 steals. Skyler Humphrey added 12 points, 8 rebounds and Marcus Mason had 10 points on the night. Kordell Fulton also contributed for Tucker County with 8 points and 4 assists. Moorefield was led by Franklin with 18 points. The Mt. Lions JV team picked up the win also in the first contest 57-38.
The Mt. Lions(11-1) will travel to East Hardy tonight February 3rd. Then Tucker County will host Southern, MD on Friday February 5th and then they will host Pocahontas County on Saturday February 6th.
