PARSONS – Tucker County High School HOSA sponsor Stephanie Burns thanked the Commissioners for allowing the students to attend Wednesday’s meeting.
“These are my HOSA students and they represent five of the eight that will be traveling to Nashville in June to compete in the National HOSA Contest,” Burns said. “These were all first place winners at the state level. These are the guys who competed and won. They did it all.”
Burns said the students had a Vera Bradley Bingo, chicken BBQ and sold raffle tickets to raise money for their trip.
“The trip costs around $8,000,” Burns said. “We need about $1,100 more for our hotel rooms.”
Burns said the community has been very supportive and said they are thankful for that support.
Tucker County Commissioners voted to pay for the $100 registration fee for each student traveling to the competition.
“Good luck,” Commissioner Patrick Darlington said. “We expect you to come back to us after the competition and tell us how it went.”
In other business, Dustin Luzier of the Tucker County Community Corrections said they are going to make their grant presentation on June 1. They will be requesting $115,000 this year.
This summer, there are 11 applicants for four positions with the summer youth program. Commissioners will interview the applicants May 31.
Commissioner Diane Hinkle said when people are appointed to county boards, they will be requested to attend a Commission meeting and be sworn in.
“We can give them a copy of the bylaws and Roberts Rules of Orders,” Hinkle said.
“A lot of board members work, so I think the representative from the Commission can swear them in during their board meeting if they are unable to attend the Commission meeting,” Moore said.
The EMS Voluntary Fee Ordinance was read during the Commission meeting.
The next meeting of the Tucker County Commission is slated for 9 a.m. June 22 in the Tucker County Courthouse Courtroom.
