The unthinkable happened in Tucker county last week. Road Rage resulting in the death of a Tucker County man. According to a press release by Tucker County Prosecuting attorney Savahanna Hull-Wilkins:
On September 4, 2023, Sgt. V.J. Pyles of the WVSP Parsons Detachment was dispatched to a shooting complaint along Appalachian Highway near the entrance to the North Point community outside of Davis, WV. Upon arriving at the scene, Sgt. Pyles found that Joseph M. Nelson had been shot and he succumbed to those injuries. Witnesses on scene indicated it was a road rage incident and described the suspect’s vehicle as a green Toyota Tacoma with aftermarket front and rear bumpers which had fled the scene toward Harman, WV.
On September 5, 2023, an individual contacted Sgt. Pyles indicating that a Daniel Lee Sanders, age 40, of Tunnelton, WV drives a green Toyota Tacoma with aftermarket front and rear bumpers. The individual identified themself as a relative of Mr. Sanders and provided documentation of a phone GPS location device showing that the last known location of Mr. Sanders was near Canaan Valley at 2206 hours. The phone was then shut off. The 911 call for this incident occurred at 2207 hours, which placed Mr. Sanders at the location at the time of the shooting. A warrant was issued for his arrest for the murder of Mr. Nelson. Later that afternoon, Mr. Sanders was located at a cabin near Seneca Rocks, WV. Upon making entry to the cabin, law enforcement discovered that he was deceased as the result of a self- inflicted gunshot wound.
