TuThis is the straight road through Canaan Valley. At the time, it was said to be the longest straight road in the State. This road was kept above an elevation of 3000 feet so the dam (proposed Canaan Valley Dam) would not flood it when constructed. The road is known as Route 32 and the work began in 1932 and ended sometime in 1937. Many folks refer to this section of road as Canaan Straight. The road did not have a hard top surface in 1936 when the first school bus ran from the Valley to Davis. As you can see, the road is not paved in the photo.
