PARSONS – A Parsons man’s face is becoming famous and being recognized for his fine facial hair. Dale Jones is being featured across the U.S. and the world in beard company product advertising and is being recognized for his well-groomed beard and mustache. Jones said he started to regrow his beard about 18 months ago.
“I shaved my beard off and started growing it back around April of 2015,” Jones said. “I changed jobs, and in my former job we had to be clean shaven. Now I am a recreation counselor and there are no restrictions, so I started letting my beard grow.”
Jones said now he sends pictures in for contests sponsored by different beard product companies. He said if he is selected, the companies send different beard grooming products to use. He said his photos and short videos are being selected more often in the past three to four months.
One of the companies that have been using Jones’ face is Mountaineer Brand, which is located in Shepherdstown, West Virginia.
“That was the last one I received samples from,” Jones said. “I also have received products from Beard Booze which is located in Lakeland, Florida. I also have been in ads for Gibs Grooming out of Fort Collins, Colorado.”
Jones said he also has images on private pages of guys with beards where they share information on the best way to care for their whiskers.
“We talk about what works and about what does not work,” he said. “I use a beard balm, beard oil and a mustache wax. I have a boar’s brush that is actually made from pig’s hair. You are not supposed to use plastic on your beard because it builds up static and can tear the hairs from your face. When you read the websites and talk with other guys about beards you learn information like that.”
Jones said the comb his uses on his facial hair is wood.
“To make your beard look fuller or to straighten it out, you need to use the blow dryer,” he said. “This is no shave November.”
He said he became interested in the different products when he first started growing his beard out again last April.
“I saw something on Facebook and I joined one of the pages,” he said. “Other guys were talking about beards and how they can become dry. Beards need to be conditioned just like other hair. I started asking questions what products to use and how to properly trim my beard. These guys are full of good information and they pass it along because they want others to succeed with their beards.”
Jones said he trims his beard himself and said he does go to the barber to help trim where his beard gets long and he cannot see underneath.
“I have the barber touch that up, but I do the rest myself,” Jones said. “Right now my beard is close to eight inches if it is straight. I have a mustache that I can turn into a handlebar mustache.”
Jones said he thinks every guy should try to grow a beard. “Facial hair in general is coming back in style,” Jones said.
