PARSONS – The votes are in and Lowell Moore was re-elected as Tucker County Commissioner for six more years. Moore, who is completing his first term, won over Democrat Roxanne Tuesing by gathering nearly two-thirds of the vote in Tucker County.
Incumbent Moore, a Republican from Parsons received 2,149 votes and Tuesing, a Democrat from Hendricks received 1,302 votes.
“It’s an honor to win this race,” Moore said. “I look forward to continuing to work with the other Commissioners and the staff in the county. Tucker County has a great courthouse and great employees and we get along great. I look forward to working as Commissioner for another six years.”
James “Chris” Michael, a Republican, will serve as the Tucker County Assessor. Michael beat opponent Greg Stevens, a Democrat by a vote of 1,735 to 1,658.
The Brunch Bill Option was placed on the ballot for Tucker County residents to decide whether or not private clubs and restaurants licensed to sell wine and alcoholic beverages to be able to sell alcohol beginning at 10 a.m. on Sundays.
Those voting for the Brunch Bill Option numbered 1,537 votes, while those against the measure cast 1,435 votes. Commissioners Patrick Darlington and Diane Hinkle said the Commission put the option on the ballot so the residents of Tucker County could be heard about their decision on the measure.
“The County Commission voted to put it on the ballot so the citizens of Tucker County could make the decision,” Darlington said. “They made their decision clear tonight and the option passed.”
Hinkle said, “I am glad the voters had the opportunity to express their opinion and now that they have we respect that. I know it will keep the Tucker County Chamber of Commerce happy as well as the CVB.”
In other Tucker County races, Sharon Moats, a Democrat from Parsons was unopposed in her race for Tucker County Circuit Clerk. She received 3,041 votes. Sherry Simmons, a Republican from Parsons running for Tucker County Clerk was also unopposed. She received 2,996 votes.
Ray LaMora, a Republican from Parsons, was seeking his second term as Tucker County Prosecuting Attorney. He was unopposed and received 2,777 votes. Democrat Brian K. Wilfong from Hambleton was also unopposed in his race for Tucker County Sheriff. He received 3,064 votes.
On the National Ticket, presidential candidate Donald Trump, a Republican, received 2,557 votes in Tucker County. Democrat Hillary Clinton received 750 votes. Libertarian Gary Johnson received 101 votes and Mountain Party candidate Jill Stein received 46 votes. Constitution Party candidate Darrell L. Castle received 10 votes in Tucker County.
In the U.S. House of Representatives, 1st Congressional District, Republican David B. McKinley received 2,238 votes in Tucker County and Democrat Mike Manypenny received 1,103 votes.
On the State Ticket in the Governor Race, Republican Bill Cole received 1,604 votes in Tucker County and Democrat Jim Justice received 1,478 votes. Libertarian candidate David Moran received 156 votes; Mountain Party Candidate Charlotte Pritt received 184 votes; and Constitution Party Candidate Phil Hudok received 47 votes in Tucker County.
In the Secretary of State Race, Republican Mac Warner received 1,741 votes in Tucker County; Democrat incumbent Natalie Tennant received 1,451 votes; and Libertarian candidate John S. Buckley received 175 votes. In the race for Auditor, Republican John McCuskey received 1,970 votes; Democrat Mary Ann Claytor received 1,016 votes; and Libertarian candidate Brenton Ricketts received 195 votes.
For Treasurer, Republican Ann Urling received 1,293 votes; Democrat John Perdue received 1,740 votes; and Libertarian Michael Young received 177 votes in Tucker County.
In the race for Commissioner of Agriculture, incumbent Democrat Walt Helmick received 1,780 votes; Republican Kent Leonhardt received 1,277 votes; and Libertarian Buddy Guthrie received 242 votes. Republican incumbent for Attorney General Patrick Morrisey received 1,739 votes in Tucker County; Democrat Doug Reynolds received 1,314 votes; Libertarian Karl Kolenich received 195 votes; and Mountain Party Candidate Michael Sharley received 97 votes in Tucker County.
In the State Senator 14th Senatorial District, Republican Randy Smith received 2,180 votes; Incumbent Democrat Bob Williams received 1,128 votes; and Libertarian Matthew Persinger received 81 votes in Tucker County.
In the race for House of Delegates 47th District, incumbent Republican Danny Wagner received 694 votes and Democrat Ken Auvil received 505 votes. In the race for House of Delegates 53rd District, Republican Tony Lewis received 844 votes in Tucker County and Democrat Al Tomson received 1,269 votes.
According to records, there are 5,622 registered voters in Tucker County and 3,575 votes were cast for a voter turnout of approximately 64 percent.
