PARSONS – When Parsons City Councilman Bruce Kolsun accepted the position as City Recorder it left an opening for Ward II Councilman. On Tuesday, Parsons City Council voted to appoint Kenneth Morrison to fill the void.
Following an executive session during Tuesday’s Parsons City Council meeting, members voted to appoint Morrison and Kolsun administered the Oath of Office to him. Morrison said there was one other person who expressed interest in the position.
Morrison works for Bombardier in Clarksburg.
“I also served in the service for 15 years,” Morrison said. “I was in the Navy. I have been a member of the Parsons Volunteer Fire Department for more than 10 years.”
Morrison said he applied for the open Council position because he wanted to get more involved in his community.
“I want to see Corridor H finished as soon as possible,” Morrison said. “I would also like to see some new businesses locate and open in Parsons. I think if we had more businesses people traveling from the D.C. area would stop and visit Parsons. There are lots of people who visit the mountain and I think they would come to Parsons if it were an easier trip.”
He said that although he did not grow up in the Parsons area, his father was raised on Pheasant and his grandparents lived here.
“I moved up here from Charleston,” Morrison said. “I like Parsons because it is quiet; however it is starting to boom just a little bit, but not like the bigger cities of Clarksburg, Charleston or Morgantown and I like that.”
He said he was remarried six years ago. “I have a daughter who lives in Charleston and a stepson who lives in town and is also a member of the Parsons Volunteer Fire Department,” Morrison said.
“I want to do my best to help Parsons and the people in Parsons,” Morrison said. “I want to help make improvements in the city and make us better.”
