DAVIS – A new business has just opened in Davis and owner David Simpson said he hopes folks will stop by and buy items from his country market.
“We are going to sell fresh vegetables and produce grown by local farmers around the area,” Simpson said. “Some of the fruit like our peaches will come from Romney and melons will be shipped in. We hope to carry Amish traditional artisan stuff and old country stuff.”
Simpson said he wants his market to look like a log cabin. He said his vision would be for his market to be open through the whole year.
“I grew up here in Tucker County down in Hambleton,” Simpson said. “I left in 1978 and joined the Army. I served there 34 years before I retired and came home. I planned to hunt and fish and figured out I better find something to do with myself. For the last two years, I was selling at the Taste of Tucker Farmer’s Market in Parsons and this year I decided to go out on my own.”
Simpson said he leased the building he is in, which was being used as the Development Office for the Tucker Community Foundation before they moved across the street.
He said primarily he will be open Thursday through Sunday, hoping to have hours from 1 p.m. to 8 p.m. and said he hopes to be open five days a week soon.
“I plan to go through this year, and next year, hope to add some cheeses, honey, maple syrup, jams and jellies,” Simpson said.
Another change with the building is Simpson added a mural to the side of the building.
“We decided we wanted a full country look for the store,” he said. “We put a fence in the back and we are going to put some designs on that and put up some tables so people can enjoy their shopping experience. Gary Miller, of Thomas, painted the mural on the side of the building.”
Simpson said the name of the business is the Country Market. He said questions can be answered by calling him at 304-940-0163.
“We have a garden and berries down in Holly Meadows, so I have to go and work also,” Simpson said. “I just want folks to know they are welcome. We want to preserve the country atmosphere of Davis and we look forward to being part of the community and we really are happy to be home. I hope everybody enjoys my vegetables.”
