THOMAS – On Tuesday, local and elected officials and residents gathered at Tucker County EMS Station 2 to celebrate its opening. Station 2 is located on the campus of Cortland Acres and is staffed 12 hours a day, 7 days a week.
Tucker County Ambulance Authority President Larry Armbruster said the group is glad to have Station 2 open.
“We are glad to be back on the hill at this station,” Armbruster said. “We are back on this end of the county every day now and we have two locations on the mountain – one here and one in Canaan Valley. The way Sheila (Marsh) is operating the personnel is when there are lots of people in the valley, there is a crew in the valley. The other days of the week, this is where things are happening to serve the residents.”
Tucker County EMS Director Sheila Marsh said she was glad Station 2 is finally open.
Tucker County EMS employee Kenny Roy said the station will help cut down on response times.
“A lot of times with this being located more in the center of the county, it will cut down on response times,” Roy said. “This helps us provide quality services to those in the community in a quicker, timelier manner.”
Ann Fuller said she is glad the station is open. “It would be great to have the funding 24 hours a day, 7 days a week,” she said.
Tucker County Commissioner Diane Hinkle said she was proud of the efforts on behalf of the Tucker County Building Commission, the Tucker County Commission and the Tucker County EMS.
“We have worked long and hard for this and I am glad we are at 12 hours, 7 days a week,” she said. “I cannot wait until we celebrate the day we are open 24 hours 7 days a week.”
Tucker County Commissioner Patrick Darlington said he is excited to see Station 2 open.
“It is something that was desperately needed and I am glad we could work together with the Building Commission, EMS and the community to be able to get it housed up here and provide life-saving service the community really needed,” Darlington said.
