PARSONS – Bill Rowe, Parsons Police Chief, told Parsons City Council members he has started putting articles in The Parsons Advocate monthly. Last month, he wrote about animal abuse and he said this month he would be writing about using cell phones while driving.
“Because of the article last month about animal abuse, I received information and on May 2, we went up and removed five dog, four cats and two guinea pigs that were being abused,” Rowe said. “I arrested a gentleman on five counts of animal cruelty, five counts of failure to register animals with the county assessor and five counts of failure to vaccinate animals.”
Rowe said he has been appointed to the Tucker County Animal Shelter Board and joined the ASPCA.
He said he was involved in a pursuit by car the other day.
“The guy wrecked and took off on foot,” Rowe said. “He hit a tree and fled on foot. Tucker County Deputy Donelson and I apprehended him. He was charged with felony fleeing, reckless driving, driving suspended, failure to stop for an emergency vehicle and he will also be charged with driving under the influence and grand larceny in Barbour County. I got a call he was passing cars and driving reckless coming into Parsons. I did not know the vehicle was stolen out of Barbour County until he wrecked the vehicle.”
Rowe said the hearing for that case is coming up later in May. He said further charges may be pending on the case.
During the month of April, the Parsons Police Department issued three citations, 12 warnings, worked on three misdemeanor cases and answered 49 police calls.
Also during the Tuesday meeting, Council members voted to appoint four members to the Parsons Economic Development Authority including Robert Burns, Cynthia Kolsun, Bruce Kolsun and Nick Amaro.
The next Parsons City Council meeting is slated for 6 p.m. June 6.
