The Parsons City Council approved a policy to combat a recent uptick in rule violations at the splash park. The “1-2-3 Strikes You’re Out Policy” was approved during the last city council meeting.
“These rules are put in place to keep our visitors safe and to keep our facility clean and operating properly,” Parsons Parks and Recreation Commission President Kennetha Greenlief said.
Visitors who violate the rules will be given a verbal warning. If another infraction occurs, the visitor will be given a written warning. If that same visitor is caught a third time, they will be banned from the splash park for the remainder of the season. This policy goes into effect on Sunday, July 1, 2018.
The safety rules at the splash park are as follows: An adult must accompany children under 12 in the splash pad play area. No running, horseplay, or profane language is permitted.
Drinking of the splash park water is prohibited for safety concerns. Infants and toddlers must wear a swim diaper. Diapers are to be changed in restrooms only.
Food and drinks are not permitted within the splash pad play area, including alcohol and glass. Skateboards, motorized boards, or roller blades are prohibited. Pets, toys, water balloons, beach balls, pool noodles, cups, buckets, and water guns are not permitted inside the splash pad play area.
Proper attire must be worn at all times. Street shoes are prohibited. For your safety, do not hang, swing, climb, or pull on the splash pad equipment.
In case of thunderstorm, lightning, or severe weather, vacate the splash pad immediately. The splash pad is a tobacco free zone. Persons with infectious diseases or having open sores shall not use the Splash Park.
Individuals wishing to report violators are asked to call the Parsons Business Office at (304) 478-2311. All information received by informants will be kept confidential.
