A first reading of the EMS ordinance revisions was presented at last week’s County Commission meeting. Amendments one through four under Article Four were revised. Payments should be made by or before September 1 of each year, beginning with September 1, 2018. This revision eliminates the two different payment dates.
A change in Amendment One was made to empower the Tucker County Commission to collect the unpaid fees, instead of the Ambulatory Board. The revision of Amendment Three specified that invoices not paid by September 1 of any given year will be assessed a late fee of $15 a year, plus 1.5 percent of the original fee per month until paid. The last revision stated that late fees will not be assessed for 2017.
Jessica Streets, a West Virginia University Extension Agent, presented the agency’s recent work. The recently held 4H camp was well attended with 97 children. “This is the largest number since I have been in office,” Streets said. A livestock camp will take place in November. They will go to a diary and study fecal samples, branding, and ear notching. “I see a great interest in growth that is going on,” Commission President Moore said.
Sherry Simmons thanked her staff, the maintenance department, for the hours of work and planning that went into the road bond election. Simmons commented that the limited timeline made the planning even more difficult for the County Clerk’s office.
Prosecuting Attorney Ray LaMore reported the Grand Jury indicted 6 people last Tuesday. This was the last time the Grand Jury will meet for the year.
Tucker County Sheriff’s office reported there were 48 traffic citations, 12 criminal investigations, nine vehicle crashes, and 1,875 calls for service in September. “You’ve been very active,” Moore commented.
Dennis Filler was hired as the County Planner in a part-time, contractual position. “He is a qualified candidate, and I appreciate that he is willing to serve,” Commissioner Diane Hinkle said. Emily Cantrell was named Deputy 911 Director.
Fiscal statements were submitted for publication. The federal audit has begun.
Bids for the Courthouse Facility Improvement Authority Grant were reviewed. This grant will be used to install a new fire sprinkler system. Two bids were received, submitted to the architects, and Brewer and Company of Charleston was chosen.
The next Commission meeting will be on Wednesday, October 25 at 4 p.m. in the Tucker County Courthouse Courtroom.
