Whether you prefer Stargazing, Outdoor Adventures, or a Romantic Getaway for two, the Laurel River Club B&B (LRC B&B) in Bowden, now offers a glamping dome perfect for all of these activities and more. For any traveler who wants to spend time outdoors, but doesn’t want to camp in the traditional way, this is a fun alternative option while enjoying nature at its finest.
Experience the outdoors in comfort. “The glamping dome is clear on the top so people can sleep under the stars, it also gives that rugged outdoors feel that so many people want with a tent but not the hassle,” said Marsha Waybright, property manager. “There are a lot of outdoor options in our area but nothing like this. People love the atmosphere. It’s not quite as rugged as camping, but it still gives you that one with nature feeling.”
West Virginia is home to a wide variety of outdoor adventures geared for any age: rock climbing, hiking, whitewater rafting, fishing, skiing and more in the Appalachian Mountains. All of this surrounds the LRC B&B and its glamping dome. Sit and gaze at the stars while relaxing in a heated dome after a long day of exploring nearby recreational sites which include Canaan Valley State Park, Blackwater Falls State Park, Seneca Rocks State Park, Dolly Sods Wilderness Area and Spruce Knob. The Dome and B&B are located on a 200-acre educational farm nestled in the middle of the Monongahela National Forest, which boasts over 920,000 acres of outdoor fun. The Dry Fork River runs along the edge of the property, affording even more recreational opportunities.
Marsha and her husband Kendall got the idea to add the 16 foot stargazing glamping dome to their B&B offerings because “this part of WV is known for its low light pollution and people flock here for night time photography. Our guests always commented on how dark it is here and how bright it made the stars,” said Marsha. “People would ask for blankets in the summer time and lay in our freshly cut hayfields or just sit for hours and watch the stars.” She thought “wouldn’t it be great if we could do something that would allow people to not only stargaze as long as they wanted, but also have that opportunity year round? So I began to look at different structures for stargazing and the domes seemed to be the right fit. The bed and breakfast stays really busy; we just wanted to provide a different experience.”
Marsha promises, “All the comforts of home, but in a camping setting.” Amenities include: the ready-to-go dome (versus traditional camping where you have to set up your own tent), firewood, gas grill, cozy deck, comfortable queen size bed and wood stove. Water, sheets, blankets, pillows and basic cooking utensils are provided.
A recent guest, Samuel from MD, had this to say about his stay, “Great location on a B&B near skiing (I think 8 miles from White Grass) and state parks. There was a lot to look at on the farm, including horses, pigs, cows, as well as some chickens. For an additional fee you can get breakfast if you ask ahead. Marsha and her husband were warm and responsive to all of our questions and we will definitely go back next season.”
Glamping is the new way to camp – it’s all about luxury, comfort, and style when compared to traditional camping. Glamping is really about an experience and you’ll have many memorable experiences and create unforgettable memories under the stars after a stay in the stargazing glamping dome at the LRC B&B.
