PARSONS – Last year, Tucker County Day at the Legislature was a huge success featuring meetings with Tucker County legislators, breakfast for more than 500 visitors served by the Tucker County High School ProStart students and a proclamation on the House Floor of the West Virginia Legislature – and this year, the Taste of Tucker, slated for 5 to 8 p.m. Feb. 11 at the Cultural Arts Center in Charleston, promises to please those who attend.
Anne Jones, Director of the Tucker County Development Authority, said last year’s event attracted more participants than any other county day event at the Legislature.
“This year’s Taste of Tucker party will be a gala evening event which will allow for more focus and celebration,” Jones said. “This location will be the perfect venue to highlight the music, food and craft beers of Tucker County while telling the story of the heritage and future of our communities.”
She said the Development Authority is working with local businesses to sponsor a coach bus to safely take businesses and residents to this event.
“Every resident, business and organization in the county is invited to participate. There will be places to displace information on topics ranging from internet and road repair, to education and state parks. And, of course, there will be food and music.”
During this year’s Taste of Tucker, ProStart students will help prepare and serve local dishes. Local restaurants, bakeries and breweries are invited to participate.
“The opportunity to taste Tucker County’s local beers is making this event one of the most anticipated for the legislators this year,” Jones said. “Our local musicians will also have the chance to play on the same stage as Mountain State. To have this whole space to ourselves is a major undertaking and recognizes the importance of Tucker County to the entire state.”
Jones said there is lots of work and input to create and put on an event of this size. She asks those wishing to help or attend email tuckerevents@gmail.com or write the Tucker County Development Authority, P.O. Box 176, Thomas, W.Va., 26292.
