PARSONS – This year, Tucker County Schools hosted an opening ceremony for their teachers which Superintendent Dr. Eddie Campbell said was well-received.
“We were able to bang out several of the required trainings which were required by the state,” he said. “The teachers all seemed receptive of that and seemed glad to get it out of the way. It makes for a long morning, but several of the teachers said they thought it was worth the long morning. I think a lot of folks really enjoyed the recognition we gave some of the employees.”
Campbell said the first day back for the students was Thursday and said that went well, except for the heat factor.
“Every year, the beginning of school just keeps getting better,” he said. “From the standpoint of us being prepared when the kids walked through the front door, we had zero complaints and only one child missed their school bus due to a mix up of where they were supposed to catch the bus.”
Campbell said the school year was a perfect start.
“We are not missing the air conditioning because we never had it,” he said. “We have been able to press on. I commend our teachers and our principals for their preparation. I thank all the office folks for all they did over the summer to get us to the point that we were back to business as the students walked through the door.”
Campbell said he was really impressed as he walked through the halls of the school on the first day. “It was great to see students engaged in learning activities. The teachers were right after it. I talked to a dozen kids at the high school and asked them how their days were going. They were all excited and really liked the block scheduling, and talked very positively about the new scheduling,” he said. “The teachers did a good job of preparing good lessons so the kids are not getting stale.”
Board member Kevin White said he spoke with several teachers at Tucker County High School who said they were pleased with the installation of the HVAC system at the school.
“They said they were pleased and said there has been very little inconvenience with the completion of the installation,” White said. “They said the workers were very professional and said in most cases, they felt the workers were leaving their messes better than they found them.”
Tucker County BOE member Judith Fairbanks reminded everyone to attend the Tucker County Fair at Camp Kidd this week.
