Allen “Power Wagon” Crossland, 79, of Davis, passed away on December 22, 2023, in Elkins. Born on July 19, 1944, he was the son of the late Joyl and Mary (Collins) Crossland.
Allen served his country in the United States Army. He worked as a truck driver for over 42 years and was proud that he never once had an accident. In addition to being a well-known truck driver, the surrounding communities knew him for his talent in playing musical instruments, especially the fiddle, mandolin, and guitar. In his spare time, Allen and his friends would play music for everyone around. He enjoyed working on cars and square dancing. Most of all, he loved spending time with his family and friends. He was a member of the VFW of Harman, the American Legion of Petersburg, and FOE #936.
He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Sharon (Elza) Crossland; Samantha Bykofsky, who Allen proudly helped raise like his own child; three siblings, Marie Crossland, Richard Crossland and wife Wanda, and Elaine Kackley; six siblings from his wife’s family who he considered his own, Max Elza and Sandra, Phyllis Webb, Winnie Kuhn, Nancy Arbogast, Douglas Elza and wife Linda, and Jeff Elza and wife Tammy. Allen had several nieces and nephews who he treated as his own children along with many in the community who saw him as a second father.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Abner Crossland, and a brother-in-law, Norman Elza.
Friends were received on Wednesday, December 27, 2023, from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Hinkle-Fenner Funeral Home. A funeral service was held on Thursday, December 28, 2023, at 11 a.m. in the funeral home with Pastor John Callaway officiating. Interment followed in the Buena Cemetery.
