Arthur Allen Lipscomb, age 90, passed away at home with his loving family by his side on Nov 16, 2015. He was known by family as Allen and those he worked with, Art. Allen was born in Leadmine, West Virginia Feb 15,1925, the son of Arthur Albert Lipscomb and Ruth Sylvia Shaffer. He was preceded in death by his brothers Robert (Bob) and Chester (Chet) and sisters Velma (Poke) Roy and Virginia (Jenny) Ferrell. Surviving brothers are Rodney (Shirley), Randolph (Nettie), Gary (Lynn) Lipscomb and sisters Mary Litman and Carol Godfrey. He is also survived by his wife of 66 years, Daisy (Ann), daughters Anna Jane (George) Kellett of Crawfordville, FL and Deborah (William) Burnham of White Marsh, MD and sons Michael (Donna), Marc (Linda), and Douglas (Jackie) Lipscomb all of Baltimore, MD. Allen and Ann were blessed with 12 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren and five great-great grandchildren. Allen moved to Parsons at eight years old and at 16 went to work for the CCC. At 18, in 1943, Allen signed up for the draft and three weeks later was called up for the US Army. He was sent to Fort Lewis, Washington and trained as a crane operator. His next stop was North Africa where he unloaded supplies for the 1st Armor Division. Next stop was Calcutta, India where he help unload supplies for the China-Burma-India Campaign Before reaching India his convoy was attacked by German aircraft and the troop ship HMS Rohna just behind it his was sunk by a German unmanned remote controlled bomb. Over 1,000 Americans lost their lives that day. They were never allowed to speak of the attack for over 45 years. As a T-4 (Sgt), he was awarded the Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal, European-African Middle Eastern Campaign Medal, Good Conduct Medal, Sharp Shooter Rifle Medal and WW II Victory Medal. After the war, Allen worked at Bethlehem Steel, in Baltimore, MD where he met and then married Daisy Wilson on Nov. 27,1948. In 1965 Allen and Daisy opened up a successful restaurant in White Marsh MD, still going strong being run by daughter Deborah. Allen retired and moved to Crawfordville, Florida in 1995. Visitation was at Family Funeral Home, Crawfordville, FL on Sunday Nov 22, 2015, 5-7 p.m. and funeral was Monday, Nov 23 at 11 a.m.
