Arthur Dewaine “Sonny” Carr

Arthur Dewaine “Sonny” Carr, age 68 years, a resident of the Dry Fork Road, Hendricks, WV departed this life late Monday afternoon, May 21, 2018 at his home with his loving friend Patsy Bonner at his side and under the care of WV Caring.  He had been in declining health for the past year and death was attributed to cancer.


He was born Sunday, October 2, 1949 at Elkins, WV, a son of the late Troy Arthur and Mona May White Carr.  He was previously married to Paula Diane Teter Harper of Harman.  He is survived by his friend and caregiver, Patsy Bonner of Dry Fork.

Also surviving are one son, Jason Dewaine Carr of Gig Harbor, WA; one daughter, Casey Yvonne Carr Hedrick and husband Roger of Elkins; one brother, Matthew Lane Carr of Dry Fork; one sister, Rebecca Ann “Becky” Helmick and husband Jerry of Mt. Zion; and four grandchildren, Aidan Hedrick, Zayah Hedrick, Makayla Carr and Jayden Carr.

He was a graduate of Parsons High School with the class of 1967.  He was a former employee of the Lenor Construction Co. of Austin, TX, working on the pipeline as an equipment operator.  He was a former employee of Canaan Valley, during the construction of the condominiums, where he was a welder and he retired from the Tucker County Board of Education, where he was a school bus driver.  He was a member of the Flanagan Hill United Methodist Church at Red Creek and a member of the Pythagoras Lodge #128 A.F. & A.M. of Parsons, WV.  Sonny enjoyed singing and playing the guitar, hunting camping and cookouts.  He was an avid fisherman and enjoyed nighttime fishing at Mount Storm with his son.

The family received friends at the Lohr & Barb Funeral Home of Parsons on Thursday from 5 to 8 p.m.  Final rites were conducted at the funeral home on Friday, May 25, 2018 at 11 a.m.  Rev. Pat Cassidy officiated and interment followed at the Bright Chapel Cemetery at Dry Fork.  The Lohr & Barb Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements for Arthur Dewaine “Sonny” Carr.  Condolences may be expressed to the family at www.lohrbarbfuneralhome.com
