Barbara Ann Bates, 75 years old of Oakland, Md. went home to be with the Lord on December 3, 2013 at Mon General Hospital due to an extended illness. She was born on March 21, 1938 at Burgoo,(Webster County) WV.
She retired from her receptionist position at The Lighthouse in Oakland, Md. During her life as she raised her children she also raised other children and was a strong advocate for children and the elderly.
She is survived by one brother Clarence (Pauline) Bates, Jr. of Volga, WV.
She has six daughters; Patty (Larry) Hebb of Davidsville, Pa., Janet (Mike) Burch and Connie (Tim) Dewitt of Oakland, Md., Paula (Charlie) Arnold of Davis WV,
Sandy (Pat) Supak and Pam (Tom) Scott of Thomas, WV.
Grandchildren are Chuck Arnold of Thomas, Daniel (Joy) Arnold of Davis, Sarah (Allen) Paugh of Fairmont, Tom,Jr.(Beth) Scott of Oakland, Md., Joshua (Erica) Supak and Aric (Julie) Supak of Morgantown, WV, Joseph (Samantha) Davis of Follansbee, WV and Aaron Burch of Ft. Benning, Ga.
Great Grandchildren are Brian Arnold, Cayden Arnold, Kearston and Alexis, Kaylie Burch, Ashton Hendon, Tommy,III., Sydney and Sunni Scott, Leah and Lauren Paugh, Hailey and Sawyer Supak.
Closet to Barbara were her best friend, Bonnie Hissom of Parsons, WV, her niece Teresa Bates Shaffer of Morgantown, WV and her special daughter, Kathy Bentzin of Black Hawk, Colorado.
She was preceded in death by her parents Clarence, Sr. and Wilma Bates of Elkins, WV and one granddaughter Sharyn Burch of Oakland, Md.
Her family would like to thank and express their appreciation to the many prayers for Barbara, food, cards, flowers, phone calls and the awesome caring CCU Staff at Mon General Hospital in Morgantown, WV.
At the request of the deceased a private memorial service is planned.
