Barbara Janet Ridenour, 85 of Terra Alta, died Monday March 18, 2024, at Ruby Memorial Hospital with family by her side.

The daughter of the late Charles Franklin and Sarah Elizabeth Lipscomb Freeland, she was born March 1, 1939, in Lead Mine, WV.

She was a cook for many different restaurants in her career.  She also worked at Hopemont Hospital as a nurse’s aide.  She enjoyed fishing, bingo, crochet and any kind of puzzles.  She was a loving mother, sister, grandmother, great grandmother and great great grandmother.

She is survived by two daughters, Sarah Reckart of Terra Alta and Frances Shupp of Thomas; two sons, Willliam Ridenour and Michael Ridenour, both of Terra Alta; nine grandchildren: Victoria, Jamie and Charles Collins, Jessica Edge, Charles and Nicholas Likens, Samantha Hamilton, Stephanie Wilt, and Christopher Ridenour; several great grandchildren and great great grandchildren; one sister, Frances J. Powell and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, David A. Ridenour, a daughter, Betsy Digman and a sister, G. Elizabeth Frazee.

To honor Barbara’s wishes, the Arthur H. Wright Funeral Home, Terra Alta, has been entrusted with cremation services.  A celebration of life service will be held at a later date.
