Betty Joan Phillips, 78, a resident of Hambleton, passed from this life Friday, January 23, 2015 at Cortland Acres Nursing Home in Thomas.
Betty was born Friday, September 25, 1936 at Pheasant Run, the daughter of the late Gladys Morgan Nestor and stepfather Lawrence Nestor. Betty married Clifford A. Phillips who survives in Hambleton. They celebrated fifty eight years of marriage.
Also left to cherish Betty’s memory is one son, Allan G. Phillips and wife Michelle, daughter- in- law, Brenda Booth Farnsworth of TX, five grandchildren, Erin Phillips Cooley and husband Nathanael of IL, Chelsea Phillips and fiancé Matt Sibert of TX, Katelyn Phillips Anderson and husband Connor of TX and Reanna and Jon Phillips, one great grandchild, Milo Robert Cooley of IL, nephew John Ours Jr. of Washington, D.C. and several nieces and nephews.
Preceding Betty in death besides her parents was her eldest son, Larry Robert Phillips and one sister, Theresa Jean Ours.
Betty was an avid participating member of St. Paul’s United Methodist Church in Parsons, the Tucker County Golden Aires and the community as a whole. She will be well remembered for her organizational skills, funny catch phrases and her love for cats. Betty will especially be remembered for her talent to listen and give a tactful response.
Visitation will be held at the Summerfield Funeral Home on Wednesday, January 28, 2015 from 1–3 p.m., the funeral hour. Pastor Mike Lantz will officiate. Betty’s request for cremation will then be honored. There will be a dinner immediately following the service at St. Paul’s United Methodist Church.
