Catherine “Louise” Phillips Simmons

Catherine “Louise” Phillips Simmons, age 84 years, a resident of Parsons, WV, departed this life Sunday afternoon, August 3, 2014 at her home, surrounded by her family.  She had been in declining health.

She was born Tuesday, July 18, 1930 at the Ole’Doc Barb Farm at Shaver’s Fork, Parsons, WV, a daughter of the late Floyd Calvin and Katherine Otia Shaw Phillips.  On November 25, 1950 at Oakland, MD, she was married to James Ellwood Simmons, who preceded her in death.

Surviving are five sons, Keith Edward Simmons and wife Janet of Midway, GA, James Howard Simmons and wife Susie of Osh Kosh, WI, David Wayne Simmons and wife Donna, Joseph Theodore Simmons and Richard Donald “Rick” Simmons and wife Linda, all of Parsons; one daughter, Marcia Elaine Cary and husband John of Benicia, CA; one sister, Helen Sherman of Glenburnie, MD;  fourteen grandchildren, Dawn, Robyn, Johnny, Tamara, Davey, Derek, Chrissy, Zach, Christopher, James “J.J.”, Ciara, Jimmy, Jesse, and Kiley; and two great grandchildren, Vincent and Olivia.

She was preceded in death by four brothers, Keith “Sonny” Phillips, Robert Phillips, Calvin Phillips and Elmer Phillips; two sisters, Alean Loughry and Lavelle Sherman; and three grandchildren, Stephanie and Melissa Simmons and Michael Carr.

She attended the schools of Tucker County.  She was a former employee of the Viz Manufacturing Company at Philadelphia, the former White Gables Nursing Home, the George Burton Cab Company, and she was a homemaker.  She was a member of the Red Hat Society and a member of the Moore United Methodist Church.

The family received friends at the Lohr & Barb Funeral Home of Parsons on Wednesday from 5 to 8 p.m.  Final rites were conducted at the funeral home parlor on Thursday, August 7, 2014 at 1p.m.  The Reverend Leon Hevener officiated and interment followed at the Parsons City Cemetery at Parsons, WV.  The Lohr & Barb Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements for Catherine “Louise” Phillips Simmons.  Condolences may be expressed to the family at; www.lohrbarbfuneralhome.com.
