Chester Herbert “Herb” Bennett

HerbertBennettCHESTER HERBERT “HERB” BENNETT, age 85 years, a resident of Parsons, WV and more recently a resident of Elkins, WV, departed this life early Friday morning, April 3, 2015 at Ruby Memorial Hospital at Morgantown, WV.

He was born Wednesday, May 1, 1929 at Parsons, WV, a son of the late Chester and Londa Mae White Bennett. On April 13, 1951 at Virginia, he was married to the former Hazel Edith Hull, who preceded him in death, May 12, 2003.

Surviving are two sons, Brian Lee Bennett and wife Belinda of Washington, WV and Herbert Brent “Squeek” Bennett of Parsons, WV; one brother, Calvin Bennett and wife Margaret of Elkins; one sister, Mildred Minscik and husband George of Gettysburg, PA; four grandchildren, Brooke Cress and husband Ron, Tamara Bryant and husband Aaron, Becky Bennett and Brianna Spratt and husband Dr. Justin Spratt; and five great grandchildren, Garrett and Camden Cress, Twins, Aiden and Kelly Bryant and Bryleigh Spratt.

Preceding him in death are two brothers, Carlton Bennett and Donald Bennett; and one sister, Juanita “Skeet” Quattro.

He was a graduate of Parsons High School with the Class of 1947, where he served as Treasurer of his class. He was a Veteran of the United States Army. He was a former employee of Nelson Tree Service as a foreman and retired from the United States Forest Service with thirty years of service. He was the lead Technician of the Cheat River Ranger District at Parsons and a Level II Forest Officer. He received several Merit Certifications and Appreciation Awards. He was a fifty year member of the Pythagoras Lodge #128 A.F. & A.M. of Parsons and a 32 Degree Scottish Rite of Clarksburg and Charleston. He was a member of the National Rifle Association, the Sierra Club, the Nature Conservancy and the Arbor Day Foundation.

The family received friends at the Lohr & Barb Funeral Home of Parsons on Tuesday from 5 to 8 p.m. Final rites will be conducted at the funeral home parlor on Wednesday, April 8, 2015 at 11:30 a.m. The Rev. Jeff Anderson will officiate and interment will follow at the Parsons City Cemetery at Parsons, WV, where the Pythagoras Lodge #128 A.F. & A.M. of Parsons will conduct ritualistic services.
