Clayton Allen Knotts, 89, a resident of Hambleton, passed from this life Tuesday, March 17, 2020, at Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown.
Clayton was born on Monday, October 20, 1930, a son of the late Albert Knotts and Minnie Catherine Davis Knotts. On April 29, 1948, in Red House, MD, he was married to the former Rosalee Nela Davis, who survives. They had celebrated seventy-one years of marriage.
Left to cherish Clayton’s memory besides his wife, is three daughters, Betty Largesse, Erma Snyder and husband, Earnest, and Mary Pitzer and husband, Richard, nine grandchildren, Nela Bennett and Scott, Clayton Knotts and wife, Mary, Cindy Nestor and husband, Dale, Earnest “Mike” Snyder and wife, Chrissy, Richard Knotts and wife, Tammy, Charles Knotts and wife, Heather, Kimberly Pitzer and Justin, Jason Pitzer and wife, Vickie, and Easton Snyder, seventeen great grandchildren, Matthew Bennett, Ryan Nestor, Derek Nestor, Autumn Knotts, Karley Knotts, J.J. Knotts, Brittany Knotts, Sydney Knotts, Savannah Shaffer, Collin Pitzer, Tristin Pitzer, S’lena Mallow, Beth Nurk, Brandi Miller, Cheala Hackney, Madison Evans, Alysia Hackney, five great great grandchildren Kace Nestor, Paxton Nestor, Makenna Hackney, Millie Miller, and Mason Hackney, and several nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by one infant son, Allen Knotts, eight
brothers, Herman, Woodrow, Lester, Denver, Russell, Everett, Gene, and Eston Knotts, four sisters, Freda Keller, Izetta Phillips, Levada Wilson, and Erma Knotts. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family.
Clayton attended the schools of Tucker County. He had worked at Parsons Tanning. He was also a coal miner having worked for Island Creek and Laurel Run. He was an avid fly fisherman and enjoyed tying his own flies. He enjoyed hunting and working with old cars. One of his cherished possessions is Tucker County’s first wrecker. He was a member of Mt. Top Hunting Club. He had attended church at Rosendorf and St. George Church of God.
