Elaine McNeill Carr, 79, of Delmar, Delaware passed away peacefully on Sunday, June 30, 2019 at the Lofland Park Care Center in Seaford, due to complications of Alzheimer’s disease.

Elaine was born December 1, 1939 in Washington, D.C., the only child of Lee Jordan McNeill and Thelma Harrison McNeill.

She attended University Park Elementary School on University Park Maryland and graduated with the class of 1957 from Northwestern High School in Hyattsville, Maryland. After graduation Elaine attended Washington Secretary School in Washington, D.C. and worked in the District of Columbia court system and for a time in the technical services department of the Washington Gas and Light Company. She married and became a full-time homemaker, wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother- a great occupation for Elaine.

She was active in high school- an excellent baton twirler, majorette co-captain, gymnastics, pep club, homeroom secretary, thespians, booster club, office, student council, dramatics class play of “Uncle Harry” and other activities. She marched with her high school band in President Eisenhower’s second inauguration parade as a majorette, a memory she proudly shared with her children and grandchildren. Elaine also loved animals, especially cats and horses, and had many of each over the years. She was an avid duckpin bowler. In addition to her hobbies, she was an expert in genealogy research, loving to open doors people didn’t want opened.

Elaine is survived by her husband of 56 years, Norman Smith Carr, Delmar; children, Debbie Bondurant (Russ), Woodbridge, Virginia, Terri Carr, New Market, Maryland, Laura Ralph (Kevin), Delmar, Delaware and Kendall Carr, Delmar, Delaware; eight grandchildren; and nine great grandchildren.

As per her wishes, she was cremated and will be interred in Rose Hill Cemetery in Thomas, West Virginia, where a graveside service will be held on Friday, July 19, 2019 at 3 p.m. A visitation for family and friends was held on Tuesday, July 9, 2019 from 6 to 7 p.m. at Short Funeral Home in Delmar.

No words can describe the appreciation and thanks for the caregivers at Lofland Park Care Center, Vitas Hospice Care and the many private caregivers that helped along her journey. May God rest her soul.

Arrangements are in the care of Short Funeral Home in Delmar and Hinkle Fenner Funeral Home in Davis, West Virginia.
