Elmer James Carr, age 91 years, a resident of the Government Road, Shaver’s Fork, Kerens, WV, departed this life Thursday afternoon, June 16, 2016 at his home.
He was born Friday, June 17, 1924 at Dry Fork, WV, a son of the late Wayne K. and Inva Pitzer Carr. On August 27, 1948 at Oakland, MD, he was married to the former Margaret Lou Kyle, who preceded him in death July 28, 2013. They had celebrated sixty-five years of marriage.
Surviving are three sons, Danny James Carr and wife Mary of Shaver’s Fork, Kerens, Raylynn Brock Carr and wife Paulette of Fairmont, Alan Kyle Carr and wife Karen of Elkridge, MD; one daughter, Lou Ann Jenkins and husband Larry of Lexington, NC; one daughter-in-law, Sandra Carr of Davis; three brothers, Charlie Carr of Ohio, Ernest Carr of Parsons and Roger Carr and wife Linda of Hambleton; nine grandchildren, Angie, David, Matt, Sarah, Jessica, James, Susan, Twins, Inva and Morgan; and two great grandchildren, Carolyn and David.
Preceding him in death are one son, Jeffrey Steven Carr; six brothers, John Carr, Lorenzie Carr, Troy Carr, Lindsay Carr, Ezra Carr and Hansel Carr; and four sisters, Nora Carr, Emmie Simmons, Lydia Hall and Julia White.
He attended the Mill Run School at Dry Fork, WV. He was a Veteran of the United States Army serving during World War II. He along with his wife operated the family farm for sixty-five years. He was a logger. He was a former employee of the Tucker County Board of Education driving school bus. He was an employee of the former Parsons Tannery, a former Deputy Assessor for the Tucker County Court House and he was a Crop Surveyor. Elmer loved coon hunting and taking care of his cows and chickens.
The family received friends at the Lohr & Barb Funeral Home of Parsons on Sunday from 5 to 8 p.m. Final rites were conducted at the funeral home on Monday, June 20, 2016 at 1 p.m. Pastor Daniel “Chopper” Evans officiated and interment followed at the Kalar Cemetery at the family farm on the Government Road, at Kerens, WV, where the West Virginia National Guard Honor Guard, H. W. Daniels Post #29 American Legion, the Tygart Valley Post #3647 Veterans of Foreign War and the Tucker County Veterans Association will conduct full military honors.
