Elwanda J. “Cookie” Smith, age 70 years of Hudson, passed away Saturday, May 28, 2016, at her home. She was born on November 5, 1945, in Hendricks, WV, the daughter of Joseph Albert and Rose Marie (Young) Turner. She graduated from Parsons High School in West Virginia in 1963. Cookie married Frank Pennington on June 12, 1964, and he preceded her in death on February 10, 1983. On February 6, 1987, she married Richard Delaney and he passed away January 24, 1993. Cookie married Harley LeRoy Smith on September 2, 1995, and he survives. She retired from M & S Manufacturing in 2000 after 24 years of service. Cookie enjoyed bowling, reading, playing games and going to the island. She loved being around people so she spent a few years working at Spielman’s True Value in Hudson.
Surviving besides her husband, are her two children, William (Joann) Pennington of Addison and Denise (Robert) Burnes of Fayetteville, AR, six step-children, Dawn (Nathan) Evans of Lake of the Ozarks, MO, Robert (Michele) South of MO, Chasity (Chris) Huffman of IL, Kyle Smith of Hudson, Jason Smith of Battle Creek and Michael (Christina) Smith of Roseville, 23 grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren two brothers, Bill (Ann) Turner of Baton Rouge, LA and Jerry (Judy) Turner of Seymour, IN, one sister, Roberta Fulton of Stuarts Draft, VA and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husbands and brother, Joseph Turner. Funeral Services for Cookie were held at 1 p.m. Thursday, June 2, 2016, at the Brown-Van Hemert Funeral Home in Hudson with Pastor Brad Luck officiating. Cremation followed.
