Emma Jean DeMent, 73, of Thomas, WV died August 17, 2015 at Ruby Memorial Hospital. She was born February 20, 1942 a daughter of the late William Lester and Mary Elizabeth Peterson Wilkins. Also preceding her in death were her husband, Robert E. DeMent, one brother; Gerald Wilkins and one sister, Barbara Hebb. Survivors include two daughters; Jodi Lynn Shupp, West Haven, UT, Kimberly Ann (Rex Liller) DeMent, Davis, WV, son-in-law, Johnny Shupp, Roy, UT, one brother; Pete (Debbie) Novallis, Thomas, WV, two sisters; Judy Ann (Joe) Eye, Red Creek, WV, Linda (William) Fridley, Thomas, WV, five grandchildren; Brandon (Kira) Shupp, Kristen Shupp, Leah (Brian) Crossland, Jeremy Liller, Allison Liller, two great-grandchildren; Hailey Crossland, Brinleigh Smith, special niece; September Novallis Howard and a host of other nieces and nephews.

Jean was a homemaker and care giver to many people in the community over the years. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Thomas and a former member of Thomas Town Council. She was a volunteer at Cortland Acres Nursing Home and made visits to many of the residents. Her favorite past times were fishing at the Thomas dam, going to yard sales and especially spending time with her grandchildren and their sport activities.

Friends were received at Hinkle Funeral Home on Saturday, August 22 from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. the funeral hour. Rev. John Callaway officiated. At the request of the deceased her remains will then be cremated. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to Volunteers of Cortland Acres, 39 Cortland Acres Lane, Thomas, WV 26292 or Tucker County Athletic Boosters, 116 Mt. Lion Way, Hambleton, WV 26269.
