Emma Lois Hulsey Rhoades, age 84 years, a resident of Hambleton, WV departed this life Tuesday, September 29, 2020 at the WV Caring’s Hospice Center at Elkins, WV surrounded by her loving family. She had been in declining health.
She was born Friday, November 22, 1935 at Lequire, OK a daughter of the late General Barto and Alta Lee Lowery Hulsey. On March 16, 1957 at Oklahoma, she was married to Roy Isaac “PeeWee” Rhoades who preceded her in death January 15, 2013. Surviving are four sons, Leslie Cameron “Cam” Rhoades of Lequire, OK, Cleveland Clarence “Cleve” Rhoades of Hambleton, John Jeffery Rhoades of Hambleton, Delton Don “Jipe” Rhoades of Hambleton; two daughters, Patricia Leabeth “Sis” Bohon and husband James of Elkins, DeAnna Eloise “DeeDee” Summerfield and husband David of Hambleton; one brother, Barto Jefferson Hulsey of West Littleton, CO; one sister, Elizabeth Jane “Jan” Eaton of Kinta, OK; thirteen grandchildren, Amy, Luke and L.C., Martin, Tia, William, John J., Tabatha, Allen, Ryan, Keristan, Delton and Evan; and ten great grandchildren, Blayden, Baylor, Byron, Jenell, Dominick, Emma, Logan, Evelyn, Wade and Aaliyah.
Preceding her in death are one son, Roy Barto “Barry” Rhoades; one granddaughter, Ahleah Mariah Summerfield; one great granddaughter, Serenity Nevaeh Milliron; and sister-in-law, Noreen “Val” Hulsey; and brother-in-law, Jerry Eaton.
Emma attended the Lequire, OK grade schools and was a graduate of Kinta High School at Oklahoma and Eastern A & M Junior College of Wilburton, OK. She had worked as the Recorder and Police Judge for the Town of Hambleton, was a homemaker, and retired in 2003 as a Secretary and Receptionist for the Tucker Co. DHHR.
She was a member of the Lequire First Baptist Church at Oklahoma and the St. John’s United Methodist Church at Parsons. Emma enjoyed singing in the Choir at school, Church and the Senior Center, working the election polls at Hambleton, attending PTA meetings, Athletic Booster Club meetings and watching her boys and grandchildren play sports. She was an amazing and loving Mother.
The family received friends at the Lohr & Barb Funeral Home of Parsons on Friday, October 2, 2020 from 3 to 6 p.m. Final rites were conducted at the funeral home on Friday at 6 p.m. The Rev. James Snyder officiated and cremation followed. As we continue to follow the CDC guidelines, social distancing as well as mask were required for those in attendance.
