Eula Jean Marteney Udovich, age 87 years, a resident of the Blackman Flats Community, Hambleton, WV departed this life Thursday evening, August 6, 2015 at her home surrounded by her loving family and under the care of Mountain Hospice.
She was born Tuesday, May 15, 1928 at Parsons, WV, a daughter of the late William Thomas and Dency C. Myers Marteney. She was reared by her Aunt and Uncle, Talitha C. “Kiki” Myers Phillips and Thurman J. Phillips. On September 19, 1949 at Parsons, WV, she was married to Henderson “Henry” Udovich, who survives. Also surviving are one sister, Rosa Lee “Rose” Boland and husband Martin of Mesa, AZ; three grandchildren, Amy Marie Cross Poling, Mark Lewis Cross and wife Liz and Matthew Curtis Cross; seven great grandchildren, Jeff and wife Codi, Heather and husband Kerry, Courtney, Lindsey, Mia, Jayden and Peyton; two great-great grandchildren, Gabriella and Brayton; and one son in law; John “Chunky” Cross.
Preceding her in death are one daughter, Ann Marie Ambrose Cross, who preceded her in death January 27, 1987; one brother, Edwin Marteney; and two sisters, Lucielle Hehle and Vieva Hebb.
She was a graduate of Parsons High School with the Class of 1947, where she was a member of the National Honor Society and the Upper Ten Society. She worked as one of the original Linotype operators at McClain Printing and for the City of Parsons as a Clerk and a recorder for the City of Thomas. She was a member of the Davis Chapter # 43 Order of the Easter Star, a charter member of the National Republican Committee and the State R.N.C. She served on the Tucker County Executive Committee and was a member of Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church at Parsons, WV. She was known for the stuffed animals she made for the former Christmas Shop at Thomas and she enjoyed crafts, floral arranging and she was an artist.
The family received friends at the Lohr & Barb Funeral Home of Parsons on Sunday from 6 to 8 p.m. Final rites were conducted at the funeral home parlor on Monday, August 10, 2015 at 11:30 a.m. The Rev. Father Timothy Grassi was the Presider and interment followed at the Mountain State Memorial Gardens at, Gilman, WV.
