Frank R. Smith, 83, of the greater Madison, Wis. Area, died Thursday, July 21, 2016, at KinderHearts in Cottage Grove, Wis.
He was born Dec. 16, 1932 in Tucker County to Denver Lee and Bessie Chloe (Lambert) Smith and proudly served his country in the US Air Force from 1951 to 1954.
Formerly of McHenry, Frank lived in Colorado for 30 years before returning to live in McHenry. In 2008, he relocated to the Madison, Wis. area.
Frank was employed by Martin Marietta and Motorola in the aerospace industry. He worked as an aerospace design engineer, and was proud of his opportunity to work on the space shuttle.
A deeply religious man, Frank’s love was the Lord. He attended services at The Chapel, and enjoyed attending Bible studies and teaching Sunday School.
Survivors include his daughter, Sandra Schwarz of Fox Lake and his son, Frank D. Smith of Denver, Co; six grandchildren, Amber Smith, Mandy Maez, Brad Schwarz, Grant Schwarz, Malia Heinrich, Frankie Smith; three great-grandchildren, Arabella, Remington and Camyron; and three brothers, Warren Smith of Missouri and John and Wayne Smith of WV.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Jeanine C. Smith; and two great-grandchildren, Julian and Brodie.
Visitation will be held from 5 – 8 p.m. Wednesday, July 27 at Justen Funeral Home & Crematory, 3700 Charles J. Miller Rd. McHenry, IL 60050. The funeral service will be at 8 p.m. in the funeral home.
Interment will be Thursday at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery, Elwood, IL.
