Fred Alan Myers, Sr.

Fred Alan Myers, Sr., of Davis, WV, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, March 3, 2022. He was born on July 6, 1938, in Benbush, WV, the son of the late Fred Edward and Bernadine Ruth (Helmick) Myers. 

 

Fred served his nation in the United States Navy. He was the first commander for the Tucker County Veterans and faithfully attended every veteran’s event possible, especially military funerals. He proudly cared for the Davis Veteran’s Monument which he was instrumental in the creation of. He worked for and retired from Laurel Run Coal Mines. Also, in his spare time, he enjoyed camping, fishing and hunting. 

 

He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Gloria (Sponaugle) Myers; two sons, Fred Myers Jr. of Culpeper, VA, Robert Myers and wife Mary of Phillipi WV; a daughter, Tena Richardson of Westlafayette, OH; eleven grandchildren, Aaren, Jessica and husband Tim, Tyler and fiancé Whittney, Brittany, Scott, Christopher, Alexandria and fiancé Ben, Julieann, Randal and wife Jess, Corey, and Alyssa; and sixteen great-grandchildren. 

 

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers and four sisters. 

 

Friends were received Sunday, March 6, 2022, from 3 to 7 p.m. at Hinkle-Fenner Funeral Home. A funeral service was held, 11 a.m., Monday, March 7, 2022, at the funeral home with Pastor John Callaway officiating. Military Honors was accorded at the Davis Cemetery. The Hinkle-Fenner Funeral Home was honored to be serving the Myers family at this time.
