Freda Louise Reed Ratliff, age 82 years, a resident of Whitmer, WV departed this life Wednesday evening, November 25, 2015 at her home surrounded by her loving family. Death was sudden and unexpected.
She was born Saturday, April 8, 1933 at Whitmer, WV a daughter of the late Harrison and Flodia Rebecca Mallow Reed. She was married to Carney “Bubby” Ratliff, at Oakland, MD who survives. They had celebrated thirty-one years of marriage. Surviving are one son, Deryle Keith Nelson and wife Kelly of Eglon; one daughter, Brenda Joyce Nelson Harper and husband Larry of Hubbard, OH; two brothers, Donald Reed and wife Alice of Uniontown, OH, Robert Reed and wife Rachel of Whitmer; seven grandchildren; six great grandchildren and a special niece, Doris Snyder who she referred to as her guardian angel and helped her Aunt Freda with everything.
Preceding her in death are one son, Ernest Keith Nelson; two brothers, Charles Golden, and Clyde Reed; and seven sisters, Nora Lee Blackburn Sites, Blanche Baker, Eva White, Mary Dolly, Olive Bennett, Sylvia Teter, and Pastor Ilda G. Wolford.
She attended the schools of Whitmer and Harman High School. She had worked for Canaan Valley Resort for many years was a member of the United Pentecostal Church of God at Whitmer. She was a noted cook, enjoyed people and reading her Bible.
The family received friends at the United Pentecostal Church of God at Whitmer, WV from 4 to 7 p.m., Tuesday. Final Rites will be conducted at the church, Wednesday, December 2, 2015 at 12:30 p.m.. The Rev. Roger L. Zimmerman, Sr. will officiate and interment will follow at the Laurel Hill Cemetery at Whitmer, WV.
