Guy Ross Smith, 96, long-time resident of Parkersburg and former West Virginia Legislator, passed away August 20, 2019 at the Belpre Landing in Belpre, Ohio.  He was born in Parkersburg June 11, 1923, a son of the late Edward and Maggie (Davis) Smith.

Mr. Smith was a Sales Representative for Union Insulating.  He served three terms in the West Virginia Legislature, representing Tucker, Randolph and Grant counties.  He was a 50 year member of Stephenson Memorial United Methodist Church.

Mr. Smith was a 32nd Degree, 50 year member of Mount Olivet Masonic Lodge #3 AF&AM and a Nemesis Shriner.  He built the first hotel at Canaan Valley, The Mountain View Motel.  Guy would also tell you he was a graduate of “The School of Hard Knocks”.

Surviving is his brother Raymond Smith and sister Edwina R. Blair, both of Parkersburg and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Geraldine (Jackson) Smith in 1988, two brothers:  Joe and Harold Smith and two sisters:  Dorothy Eschbacher and Elsie Buck.

Funeral services were Friday at 11 a.m. at the Stephenson Memorial United Methodist Church with Pastor Gene Full officiating.  Interment followed at Mount Olivet Cemetery with Masonic graveside rites conducted by Lodge #3.  Visitation was Thursday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at the Leavitt Funeral Home, Parkersburg and one hour prior to services at the church.
