Harold Otto Gooden, Sr., age 77 years, a resident of the Clover Run Community, Parsons, WV departed this life Thursday, December 21, 2023, at his home.  He had been in declining health.

He was born Sunday, November 3, 1946, at Fairmont, WV, a son of the late Fredrick David Gooden and Vivetta May Summerfield Gooden, who passed away when he was six years old.  He was married to the former Sandra Kay Workman, who preceded him in death January 23, 2022.   

Surviving are five sons, David Gooden of VA, Gary B. Gooden and wife Heather of WV, James J. Gooden and wife Becca of VA, Joe L. Gooden of Parsons, and Benjamin K. Gooden and wife Jessica of Parsons; beloved stepson, Richard Edward Kencel, Jr. and wife Joyce of Winchester, VA; four brothers, Tom Gooden and Sheila, Boo Gooden and wife Linda, and Robert Gooden, all of Fairmont, and Danny Gooden of Parsons; six sisters, Elsie Ford, Vivetta “Sis” Carter, Elsie Metheny, Robin Harper, Mary Ann Lipscomb, all of Fairmont, and Rosie Crocker of VA; seventeen grandchildren, Jessica, Michael, Ryan, Autumn, Matthew, Zach, Kendra, Zane, Kendall, Shelby, Cheyann, Brianna, Ben, Trea, Lance, Eilish, and Caleb; four great grandchildren, Logan, Emberly, Ean and James; sister-in-law, Jane Gooden of Fairmont; and several nieces and nephews.

Preceding him in death are his stepmother, Pearl Ruth Youtzy Gooden; one son, Harold O. Gooden, Jr., one grandson, Justin; two brothers, Dave Gooden and Lester Gooden.

He attended Marion County High School.  He was Christian by faith.  He was a welder and electrician, while working in the mines, retiring from Eastern Associated Peabody Coal Company in Boone County.  Harold enjoyed hunting and running his backhoe in his backyard.  Grandpa loved spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren.

The family will receive friends at the Lohr & Barb Funeral Home of Parsons, WV on Friday, December 29, 2023, from 10 a.m. to 12 Noon.  Final rites will be conducted at the funeral home on Friday at 12 Noon.  The Reverend Kevin Gainer and The Reverend Justin Jones will officiate and interment will follow at the Harsh Cemetery at Clover Run. The Lohr & Barb Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements for Harold Otto Gooden, Sr.  Condolences may be expressed to the family at www.lohrbarbfuneralhome.com
