 HowardCMooreHoward C. Moore, age 86 years, a resident of St. George, WV, departed this life Wednesday, August 31, 2016 at home, surrounded by his family and under the care of Mountain Hospice, following a courageous battle with cancer.
He was born Monday, March 24, 1930 at St. George, WV, a son of the late Charlie Howard and Velva Myrtle Martin Moore.  On February 15, 1954 at Oakland, MD, he was married to the former Helen “Mildred” Darnell, who preceded him in death July 2, 2011.  They had celebrated fifty-seven years of marriage.
Surviving are three sons, Howard Robert “Bobby” Moore and wife Becky of Blackman Flats, Scott Clifford Moore and wife Tammy of Parsons and Richard “Dale” Moore and wife Danielle of Blackman Flats; three daughters, Barbara Elaine Cassidy and husband Mike of St. George, Martha “Marline” Daugherty and husband Dennis of Philippi and Brenda Diana Nestor and husband John of St. George; two sisters, Mary Virginia Shingleton of Ohio and Eva Annalou Phillips of Parsons; eighteen grandchildren, eight great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Preceding him in death are three brothers, Earl Moore, Brown Moore and Walter Moore; and three sisters, Belva Stella Goodwin, Dessie Gaye Jones and Edna Grace Auvil.
He attended the one room Murphy School at St. George, WV.  He was a Veteran of the United States Army during the Korean Conflict.  He was a timber cutter, worked in the Steel Mills in Weirton, WV, worked for Woodrow Price driving truck, an employee of the former Parsons Tannery, a construction worker, Meteki coal mines, and Consolidated Coal Mines, a lifelong farmer and logger and retired from the United States Forrest Service.  He was a member of the former Garrett Post #4322 V.F.W, and a member of the Sycamore Grove Church.  He was an avid gardener and had a great love for baseball.  He dearly loved his grandchildren.
The family were receive friends at the Lohr & Barb Funeral Home of Parsons on Friday from 5 to 8 p.m.  Final rites were conducted at the funeral home on Saturday, Sept. 3, 2016 at 11 a.m.  Rev. Pat Cassidy officiated and interment followed at the Mountain State Memorial Gardens at Gilman, WV, where the H.W. Daniels Post #29 American Legion, the Tygart Valley Post #3647 Veterans of Foreign War and the Tucker County Veterans Association conducted full military honors.  The family suggest that expressions of sympathy be in the form of contributions to a charity of their choice.
