Hubert Dale Knotts

Hubert Dale Knotts, age 81 years, a well known businessman and a resident of Parsons, WV, departed this life Wednesday, December 31, 2014 at his home. He had been in declining health.

He was born Monday, August 7, 1933 at Hambleton, WV, a son of the late Marvin Grant and Esta Marie Martin Knotts. On July 1, 1956 at Parsons, WV, he was married to the former Vera “Susan” Plum, who preceded him in death, April 2, 2008.

Surviving are two stepsons, John H. Foster and wife Barbara of Montrose and Rodney A. Foster and wife Kathleen of Baltimore, MD; one brother, Donald Lee “Don” Knotts and wife Susan of Hambleton; two sisters, Opal Marie Knotts Nestor of Kasson and Alta Katherine Knotts Snyder of Hambleton; one granddaughter, Samantha Marie Knotts of VA; nine step grandchildren, John Foster, Susan Foster, Robbie Courtney, Mark Courtney, Stephanie Nicole “Nicky” Foster, Jesse Wayne “J.W.” Foster, Daniel Oleszczuk, Kimberly Fox and Bryan Oleszczuk; one great granddaughter, Makenzie Elizabeth Scott; six step great grandchildren, Nathan Courtney, Sinjin Oleszczuk, Hunter Oleszczuk, Tyler Fox, Nicholas Oleszczuk and Lucas Oleszczuk; several nieces and nephews; and his special friend, Ella Greene.

Preceding him in death is one son, David Dale “Red” Knotts.

He attended Parsons High School. He was a Veteran of the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. He was a former employee of the Mullennax Lumber Co., Rheems Inc., of Baltimore, MD, the Roscoe Nestor Lumber Co., the former Parsons Tannery until its closing in 1975, and he worked for seventeen years for Laurel Run Mining Co. He was owner and operator of Knotts’ Exxon until his retirement in June of 2006. He was a member of the former Garnett Post #4322 VFW. He was a member of First United Methodist Church, where he was active in the Men’s breakfast. He was well known for plowing gardens for his friends and neighbors throughout the area.

The family received friends at the Lohr & Barb Funeral Home on Saturday from 5 to 8 p.m. Final rites were conducted at the funeral home parlor on 
Sunday, January 4, 2015 at 1 p.m. The Rev. James Snyder officiated and interment followed at the Parsons City Cemetery at Parsons, WV, where the H.W. Daniels Post #29 American Legion, the Tygart Valley Post #3647 Veterans of Foreign War and the Tucker County Veterans Association conducted full military honors. The Lohr & Barb Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements for Hubert Dale Knotts. Condolences may be expressed to the family at; www.lohrbarbfuneralhome.com.
