James “Jim” David Gatto, 63, a resident of Hendricks, passed from this life Wednesday, July 31, 2019, at Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown. He had been in his usual health and death was attributed to an accident.
Jim was born on Thursday, May 3, 1956, a son of the late James Junior Gatto and Catherine Marie Bohon Gatto, who survives. In Parsons, on August 30, 1975, he married Helen Louise Carr Gatto. They had celebrated 43 years of marriage.
Left to cherish Jim’s memory is his wife, Helen, and son, James David Bruno “JD” Gatto and wife, Angela, of Batesburg, SC, one grandchild, Tanner Scott Gatto, two step-grandchildren, Talisha and Chas Sturms, two great-grandchildren, Haley and Danielle Sturms, two sisters, Donna Lynn Roy and husband, Robert, and Bonnie Thompson and husband, Jimmy, father in law, June Carr and wife, Shirley, sisters in law, Beverly Carr Morgan and husband, John, of Mechanicsburg, PA, and Sandy Carr Perks and husband, Will, of Martinsburg, WV, several nieces, nephews, and many friends.
Jim was a graduate of Mountaineer High School with the Class of 1975. He had been a coal miner for thirty years, and he had retired from Marion County Coal Company, Murray Energy. After his retirement, he enjoyed mowing grass and working on small engines. He also enjoyed attending county fairs and festivals. Jim loved spending time with his family, his dog, Daisy Mae, and fishing. He was a member of Bright’s Chapel.
Visitation was held at the Hostetler Funeral Home on Saturday from 4 until 7 p.m. Funeral services were held from the funeral home chapel on Sunday, August 4, 2019, at 3 p.m. Rev. Lonnie Daniels officiated, and interment followed at Fansler Cemetery in Hendricks. The Hostetler Funeral Home was entrusted with the arrangements for James “Jim” David Gatto.
