Mr. James W.”Butch” Long, Sr., age 87 years, a resident of the Holly Meadows Community, Parsons, WV, passed away Monday April 14, 2014 at Cortland Acres Nursing Home.
He was born December 16, 1926 at Parsons, a son of the late Howard and Virgie Barb Long. He was twice married, first to Stanis Lee Long who preceded him in death and then to Beth Long who survives. Also surviving is one son, James W. “Butch” Long, Jr. of Parsons and one brother, Phil Long of Minnesota. Three stepchildren, Amy, Bruce and David, four grandchildren, Tink, Tammy, Krista and Zachary, six great grandchildren, James Payden, Alexa Lee, Connor Kee, Zachary Scott, Ethan Michael and Maci Lee, one step granddaughter, Kimber and several nieces and nephews. Also preceding him in death was one daughter, Brenda Lee Long, one brother, Steve Long and two sisters, Margie Alizio and Shirley Long. Mr. Long was a Veteran of the United States Army having survived during World War II and had worked for the Parsons Tannery for twenty five years. He later owned Long’s Store in Parsons for many years and retired from Citizens National Bank of Parsons where he worked as a Loan Officer. He enjoyed hunting, Nascar Racing and spending time at Myrtle Beach, SC. He attended St. John’s United Methodist Church in Parsons. Friends were received from 6 until 8 p.m. Wednesday, April 16, 2014 at St. John’s United Methodist Church in Parsons. A funeral service was held at 11 a.m. Thursday, April 17 from the church with Rev. James Snyder and Rev. Philip Dent officiating. Interment followed in the Parsons City Cemetery.
