John Howard Collett, Sr

ColletJohn Howard Collett, Sr., 73, a resident of Thomas, passed from this life Sunday, June 19, 2016 at home surrounded by his family.
John was born Saturday, June 27, 1942 in Hambleton, a son of the late Howard P. Collett and Elma Mallow Collett. He had celebrated twenty-nine years of marriage to the former Frances Maxine Heatherly who survives in Thomas.
Also left to cherish his memory are five children, John Collett, Jr., and companion, Diane of Thomas, Dena Stuart and husband Steve of Ohio, Bobby Dennis and companion, Robin of Thomas, Charlie Dennis and wife, Sherry of Masontown, and Tammy Burgess and husband, Alan of Pinch, four step children, Sandi Stewart, Bonnie Svezese and husband, George, all of Baltimore, Jennifer Speck and husband, Rick of Ridgley, and Forest Conrad of Thomas, one brother, Roger Collett of Parsons, six grandchildren, Billy, Amber, Michael, David, Timothy, and Brittany,, two great grandchildren, Josiah and Penelope, two nieces, Cindy Helmick and Debra Hinkle and husband Don, two great nieces Angie Browning and Melissa Rhoades, two great nephews, Buck Helmick and Dave Kyle, and several other extended family members.
Preceding John in death besides his parents was one sister, Arbutus Wilson
John graduated Parsons High School and had worked as a machinist with Cleveland Crane and Wolfe Welding, had worked at Kingsford, and was a well known carpenter with Herb Mallow and had helped with the building of Black Bear Properties on the Cortland Road. He was an avid hunter, fisherman, and loved camping with Maxine. He enjoyed sports and spending time with family and friends. He also operated JC’s Flies out of his home where people from all over the state would come to purchase his fishing flies. His grandchildren and great grandchildren were his pride and joy, and he enjoyed teaching them how to hunt and fish as well as other life lessons.
A visitation will be held at Summerfield Funeral Home on Wednesday, June 22, 2016 from 11a.m. to 1p.m.., the funeral hour. Rev. James Snyder will officiate and at John’s request for cremation will then be honored. The Summerfield Funeral Home has been entrusted with the arrangements for John Howard Collett, Sr..
