Joseph Leonard Benden, 86, of Eldersburg, passed away peacefully September 6, 2025 at the Dove House in Westminister, MD after a long battle with dementia.
Joe was born on October 12, 1938 to Harold and Ethel Benden in Gallitzen, PA.
He was a Veteran of the U.S. Navy and D.C. Air National Guard/A.A.F. Base.
He had a successful career in complex technologies. He built the first ever CAT scan machine, a highlight of his career, along with assembling hardware that went into space.
His hobbies included tennis, hunting. woodworking, and knife making. He especially enjoyed spending time with his grandkids and was blessed to have spent 48 years with the love of his life, Faye.
Joe is survived by his daughter, Denise, along with her husband Bryan and their children Samantha and Sydney. Also by his son David and his wife Kelly and their son, Kyle. He was prodeceased by his wife, Faye (Eye) of Red Creek, WV and grandson Nicholas, Denise and Bryan’s son.
Joe is also survived by brothers Milton and Harold and sisters Mary and Margo as well as his parter Anita Zepp of Eldersburg, MD.
Interment will take place at Flannigan Hill Cemetery in Red Creek, WV.
