Joyce Ann Retcofsky Carrico, 73, of Thomas, passed away on April 19 2024. She was born October 2, 1950, in Newport News, Virginia, grew up in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and lived most of her adult life in Tucker County, West Virginia, the place she really did consider “Almost Heaven”. She was the daughter of the late Kathleen Gray Retcofsky and the late Herbert L. Retcofsky and his wife, Barbara K. Lotze of South Park, PA.

She was a graduate of South Park High School, CCAC, California University of Pennsylvania and West Virginia University. She retired after 35 years of service to the students in the Tucker County Schools. Gi (as she was lovingly named by Skye and called by her grandchildren and great grandchildren) enjoyed her work, her students, her home and, most of all, her family.

She is survived by the family she dearly loved including her best friend of over 50 years, and loving husband, David R. Carrico, and their sons, Justin Carrico and Josh Carrico. Also surviving are her beloved grandchildren and great grandchildren including, Skye (Hannah) Carrico and their children, Makenna Rose, Alaina Jane, Blaze Skye, and Ray Skye; Garrett Carrico and his sisters, Brylee and Kayla and Trisha (Brandon) Smith, and their children Trenton, Kaitlyn and Tyler. She is also survived by her brother, John (Dell) Retcofsky and their son Alex (Corinne) Retcofsky, her sister, Carol L. Miller and her son, Max Miller, her sister, Kathleen McDermott and her children, Rob (Emily) McDermott, David McDermott, and Elizabeth McDermott, and her brother, Herbert (Elaine) Retcofsky, and their children Alexis Retcofsky and Ben Retcofsky, all of Pittsburgh, PA. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Kandace L. Retcofsky; her brother, Gregory C. Retcofsky; and her nephew, Adam Retcofsky.

At Joyce’s request, there will be no visitation or funeral. A private service will take place at Rose Hill Cemetery in Thomas, WV.

The Hinkle-Fenner Funeral Home is honored to be serving Mrs. Carrico’s family.
