Lucille Bodkin Simmons, age 84 years, a native of Tucker County, departed this life peacefully Thursday, October 2, 2014 in her daughter’s home at Weeki Wachee, FL.
She was born October 17, 1929, at Norton, WV, a daughter of the late Oscar and Jessie Sponaugle Bodkin. On September 7, 1948 at Oakland, MD, she was married to Glenn Dale Simmons, who preceded her in death October 27, 1995. They had celebrated forty seven years of marriage.
Surviving are two daughters, Deebra Jackson and husband Dale of Weeki Wachee, FL, and Patricia Simmons of Weeki Wachee, FL.; two sisters, Hilda Williams and Arlene Deets, both of Parsons, WV; one niece, Glenda Filler of Parsons, WV; four grandchildren, James Glenn Harris, Carrie Ladawn Oliveto, Anthea Nicholas, and Desiree White; and ten great grandchildren, Corey, Zachary, Angel, Brandon, Ashley, Hunter, Zedrick, Winter, Shawn and Savannah; and one great great grandson, Ryder James.
She is preceded in death by one brother, Lawrence D. Bodkin; and one great –great- grandson, James Bentley Harris.
She enjoyed knitting, crocheting and reading her bible. Lucille was always caring, courageous, and a spiritual woman. She will be remembered for her Love, strength, and unwavering devotion to her family, friends and God. She will have eternal life and forever live in our hearts
The family will receive friends at the First Baptist Church in Parsons on Thursday, from 3 to 7 p.m. a gravesite service to be conducted at the Parsons City Cemetery on friday, October 17, 2014 at 2 PM. Pastor Allen D. Crosten will officiate and interment of the cremains will follow at the Parsons City Cemetery in Parsons, WV.
