Mary Lee Shriver Matlick, age 86 years, a resident of Blackman Heights, Parsons, WV and more recently a resident of Cortland Acres, departed this life Friday evening, January 31, 2014 at Cortland Acres. She had been in declining health.
She was born Tuesday, April 13, 1926 at Unity, PA, a daughter of the late Fletcher Cyrus Shriver and Olga Jeanette Hayhurst Shriver. On September 23, 1944 at Red House, MD, she was married to Harold Lester Matlick. They had celebrated sixty nine years of marriage.
Surviving are one son, Gerold Sheldon Matlick and wife Lois of Parsons; one daughter, Diane Ruth Matlick Wilfong Wade and husband Danny of Blackman Heights; one brother, James Lee Shriver and wife Linda of Romney; one sister, Betty Elizabeth Renner of New Martinsville; three grandchildren, Michael Sheldon Matlick and wife Whitney, Matthew Scott Wilfong and wife Jaymie and Dana Ellen Matlick Mahanes and Steve; and two great grandchildren, Lyndsay Hart and Hunter Mahanes.
Preceding her in death are one son, Keith Edmund Matlick; one daughter, Carla Jean Matlick; twin sisters, Janice Jennings and Janet Funk; and one son-in-law, Scott Wilfong.
She attended the schools of Fairmont. She was a homemaker and an employee of the former Half Price (HP) store of Parsons for several years. She was a member of the V.F.W. Auxiliary, former Garnett Post, a member of the Parsons Chapter #91 Order of the Eastern Star and a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church and the United Methodist Women. She was an avid reader and enjoyed quilting, embroidery and collecting angels. She loved her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
The family received friends at the Lohr & Barb Funeral Home of Parsons on Tuesday from 5 to 8 p.m. On Tuesday at 7 p.m. at the funeral home parlor, the Parsons Chapter # 91, O.E.S. conducted ritualistic services. Final rites will be conducted at the funeral home parlor on Wednesday, February 5, 2014 at 11 a.m. The Rev. Jeff Anderson, The Rev. Dave Snyder and The Rev. Father Timothy Grassi will officiate and interment will follow at the Mt. Zion Cemetery at Preston County. The Lohr & Barb Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements for Mary Lee Shriver Matlick.
