MORRIS DENVER WHITE, age 86 years, a resident of the Limestone Road Community, St. George, WV, departed this life Friday, March 13, 2015 at Cortland Acres at Thomas, WV, surrounded by his loving family. He had been in declining health.
He was born Friday, April 13, 1928 at St. George, WV, a son of the late Morris Lakeland White and Mary Wotring White. On June 22, 1961 at Ashtabula, OH, he was married to the former Betty Ann Robinson, who survives. They had celebrated fifty three years of marriage.
Also surviving are two sons, Robert Douglas “Bobby” White and wife DeNiece of Greensboro, NC, John Edward White and wife Kerry of Nokesville, VA; two daughters, Debra Lou “Debbie” Bugenske and husband Steve of Macedonia, OH, Victoria Ann Cleveland and husband Greg of Helena, MT; one brother, Jerry White of St. George, WV; three sisters, Betty L. White of St. George, WV, Effie “Dot” Dumire of Aurora, WV, Madeline “Madge” Messiora of Morgantown; eight grandchildren, Kyle, Kevin, Brittany, Morgan, Whitney, Jayden, Amanda and Nicole; one great grandson, Brayden; and several nieces and nephews.
Preceding him in death are one son, Michael Morris White; six brothers, Blaine, Dale, Paul, Kenneth, Robert and Ralph “Rowdy” White; and two sisters, Elizabeth Close and Gwendolyn Hebb.
He was a graduate of Parsons High School, of which he was a member of the Basketball squad. He was a Veteran of the United States Airforce, serving during the Korean Conflict. He attended Davis & Elkins College, where he received his Bachelor of Education, and he attended West Virginia University, where he received a Masters Degree in Arts. He was a former employee of Conrail for over thirty six years, where he worked as a Railroad Engineer. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather, an educator, coach, and guiding voice to many Ashtabula Ohio area residents for twenty seven years, while teaching at Kingsville, Columbus Junior High and Washington Elementary Schools. Retiring in 1983. He was a member of the V.F.W. Post #943 of Ashtabula, OH, and the American Legion Post #0200 of Charleston, WV. He was an avid outdoorsman and a noted gardener. The family received friends at the Lohr & Barb Funeral Home of Parsons on Tuesday, March 17, 2015 from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. Final rites were conducted at the funeral home parlor on Tuesday at 1:30 p.m. Pastor Rick Price officiated and interment followed at the Mt. Carmel Cemetery at Limestone, WV, where the H.W. Daniels Post #29 American Legion, the Tygart Valley Post #3647 Veterans of Foreign War and the Tucker County Veterans Association conducted full military honors. The family suggest that expressions of sympathy be in the form of contributions to Hospice Care Corp, IPU Staff, 169 Diamond Street, Elkins, WV.
