PhyllisSimmonsPhyllis Jean Carr Simmons, 77, a resident of Blackman Heights community near Parsons, passed from this life Thursday, August 18, 2016 at her home surrounded by her family.
Phyllis was born Friday, December 23, 1938 in Hendricks, a daughter of the late Harley Ernest Carr and Texie Agnes Long Carr. On July 24, 1956 in Parsons, she married Stephen Carter Simmons who preceded her in death on December 6, 1992.
Left to cherish Phyllis’ memory are four children, Robin Lynn Malcomb and husband Ronnie of Elkins, Jeanette Fern Swiger of Langenburg of Saskatchewan, Elizabeth Agnes Hedrick and husband Randy of Camden, South Carolina, and Stephen Carter Simmons, Jr., and wife Angie of Hambleton. Other survivors include: one brother, Harold Carr and wife Carol of Dale City, VA, three sisters, Ruby Wingfield of Valley Bend, Lois Wratchford and husband, Tom of Parsons, and Carol Sue Helmick of Elkins, seven grandchildren, Stefan Laws, Crystal Laws Hayes, Rachel Swiger Imhoff, Christina Malcomb Kelly, Valerie Malcomb, Dylan Simmons and Rebekah Simmons, two great grandchildren, Torie Hayes and Braylon Simmons, two sisters-in-law, Marie Carr of Ohio and Donna Carr of Hambleton, and several nieces and nephews.
Preceding Phyllis in death besides her parents and husband were two brothers Richard and Ernest “Sonny” Carr, one sister Betty Mullenax, and two grandchildren, Kimberly Laws and Shawn Whitaker.
Phyllis attended Parsons High School and had worked as nurse’s aide and cook for many years at Nella’s Nursing Home, Granville Manor, and Cortland Acres Nursing Home. She also worked for DHHR and the Forestry Service. She enjoyed gardening and loved spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She had attended the Parsons Church Of God.
A visitation was held at Hostetler Funeral Home on Saturday from 5 to 8 p.m. Funeral services were held at the funeral home chapel on Sunday, August 21, 2016 at 2 p.m. with Rev. Dave Snyder officiating. Interment followed in Parsons City Cemetery. The Hostetler Funeral Home was entrusted with the arrangements for Phyllis Jean Carr Simmons.
