Richard Lee Lewis, 84, a resident of Parsons, passed from this life Wednesday, January 9, 2019 at Elkins Rehabilitation and Care Center and under the care of WV Caring.


Richard was born Sunday, August 26, 1934, in Parsons, a son of the late Nick Lewis and Martha C. Crossland Lewis. On April 19, 1953, in Parsons, he was married to the former Twila Joan Wratchford who preceded him in death March 23, 2018. They had celebrated almost sixty-five years of marriage.

Left to cherish Richard’s memory are two daughters, Constance “Connie” Joan Shahan and fiancé, Jeremy Loucks, and Victoria “Vicki” Lynn Glasow and husband, John, one son, Richard “Rick” Lee Lewis II and wife, Jaime, one sister, Mary Virginia Anderson of Alexandria, VA, eight grandchildren, Christopher Hinte and wife, Tori, Sarah Ricottilli and husband, Ron, Jeremy Hinte, Emma Glasow and fiancé, Corey Harper, Amy Glasow, Selena Lewis, Sammy Lewis, and Dean Lewis, three step grandchildren, Cody Shahan and wife Ashley, Maria and Sophia Ricottilli, three great-grandchildren, Lilly Hinte, Anna Hinte and Liam Ricottilli and step great grandchildren, Rayah Rose Shahan, Aleyah Shahan, Khia Shahan, and William Grayson Shahan.

Richard was a graduate of Parsons High School with the class of 1952, and years later, he and Twila were inducted into the Parsons High School Hall of Fame. He had worked for Ford Motor Company in Cleveland, OH, retiring after twenty years as a supervisor. He returned to Parsons in 1974 and started his own business, Lewis Memorial, from which he retired in 2004. Richard had developed a passion for farming, raising his livestock, and operating his tractors. A very proud and accomplished farmer, he enjoyed his work and was a hard worker. He was a devoted husband, loving father and family man. He was a member of the Gideons International and the Parsons Church of God, where he served as a trustee for many years.

Visitation was held at Hostetler Funeral Home on Sunday from 5 until 7 p.m. Funeral services were held from the funeral home chapel on Monday, January 14, 2019 at 11 a.m. Rev. Dave Snyder officiated, and interment followed in Parsons City Cemetery. The family would like to extend their appreciation to the staff at Elkins Rehabilitation and Care Center.
