Rose Lane Metz Humphrey Gidley

Rose Lane Metz Humphrey Gidley, 70, a resident of Hendricks, departed this life Monday, October 14, 2019, at her home surrounded by her family. She had been in declining health for some time.

Rose was born on Tuesday, May 22, 1949, in St. George, a daughter of the late Artie Carl Metz and Okie Cordle Metz. She was twice married, first on September 18, 1971, to the late James L. Humphrey, Sr., and on June 5, 2010, to Douglas Gidley.

Left to cherish her memory is her husband, Douglas Gidley, and her children, Donna K. Akins and husband, Kenneth, of Hendricks, Chris Watson and wife, Carol, of Thomas, Pamela S. Humphrey Spessert of Montrose, James L. Humphrey (Sam) of Parsons, Cynthia D. Harsh of Parsons, Rhonda Miller and husband, John, of Bruceton Mills, Marsha Richards, and husband, Russell, of Valley Point, two sisters, Judy Stone of Thomas and Sharon Pifer of Parsons. She was also blessed with several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Preceding her in death besides her parents and first husband is one son, Michael S.

Humphrey, three brothers, Carl James “Bean” Metz, Kenneth N. Metz, and Eugene Metz, four sisters, Mary Sampson, Geneva Sullivan, Mae Metz, and Glenda Gibbs.

Rose had attended the schools of Tucker County, worked as a Dispatcher, and EMT for Tucker County Emergency Services for twenty years before retiring in 2011. After her retirement, she enjoyed long drives, fishing and playing bingo. She had attended the Hendricks Free Methodist Church.

The family received friends at Hostetler Funeral Home on Thursday, from 5 to 7 p.m. Funeral services were held at the funeral home on Friday at 11 a.m. Rev. Pat Cassidy officiated, and Interment followed at Mt. Zion Cemetery near St. George. The Hostetler Funeral Home was entrusted with the arrangements for Rose Lane Metz Humphrey Gidley.
