Roy Edgar Nelson

Roy Edgar Nelson, 75, a resident of Dry Fork, passed from this life Tuesday, October 1, 2019 at home surrounded by family and under the care of West Virginia Caring.

Roy was born on Wednesday, May 24, 1944, in Lanesville, a son of the late Edgar E. “Double E” Nelson and Nela Christie Huffman Nelson.

Left to cherish Roy’s memory is one son, Joseph Nelson and companion, Kassidy Easter, grandchildren, Kaden Nelson, Addisyn Gragg and Grayson Gragg, three brothers, Billy Joe Nelson, Burley “Jake” Nelson, and James “Jim” Nelson, all of Dry Fork, three sisters, Mary Smith and Doris Cohen of North Carolina, and Joane Huffman of Elkins, special friends, Charlie and Joy Showalter of Davis and Steve and Darlene Miller of Upper Tract, and several nieces and nephews.

Preceding Roy in death besides his parents were two brothers, Roscoe Nelson and Donald “Doodle” Nelson, and one sister, Betty Jean Kimble.

Roy attended the schools of Tucker County. He had worked as a heavy equipment operator for over thirty years with Nelson Excavating. He enjoyed farming, riding his side by side, and keeping an eye on his family. He was a member of the Thomas Fairfax Masonic Lodge #174 A.F. & A.M.

Visitation was held at the Hostetler Funeral Home on Saturday, October 5, 2019, from 11 a.m. until 1p.m., the funeral hour. Rev. Jerry Helmick officiated, and interment followed at Nelson Family Cemetery in Dry Fork. The Hostetler Funeral Home was entrusted with the arrangements for Roy Edgar Nelson.
