Thelma Louise Sponaugle Plaugher, age 85 years, a resident of Hendricks, WV, departed this life Friday afternoon, February 6, 2015 at her home, surrounded by her loving family. She had been in declining health.
She was born Saturday, April 27, 1929 at Hendricks, WV, Tucker County, a daughter of the late Clarence and Vista Bodkin Sponaugle. On February 29, 1948, she was married to Eldon Junior Plaugher, who preceded her in death May 11, 2010. They had celebrated sixty- two years of marriage.
Surviving are one son, Eldon Ronald Plaugher and wife Linda of Parsons; one sister, Wanda Stahl and husband Robert of Street, MD; two grandsons, E. Thomas Plaugher and wife Georgette of Rowlesburg, and Aaron W. Plaugher and wife Christine of Alderson, WV; two great grandchildren, Gillian Plaugher and Patrick Plaugher, both of Alderson, WV; and several nieces and nephews.
Preceding her in death are three sisters, Freddie Bennett, Opal McDaniel, and Edith Willson.
She attended the Hamrick School and Parsons High School. She was a member of the St. George Church of God. Thelma lived her life devoted to the Lord. She was a fervent prayer warrior for her family, her church family, and anyone in the community who called upon her. She was the Sunday School teacher to many. She spent many years as a helpmate to her mother-in-law, Rev. Lillie Plaugher. She was a loving daughter, sister and wife and a loving and proud mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She was a homemaker, a great cook, and a strong and independent woman to the end who will be greatly missed by all.
The family received friends at the Lohr & Barb Funeral Home of Parsons on Tuesday from 5 to 8 p.m. Final rites will be conducted at the funeral home parlor on Wednesday, February 11, 2015 at 11 a.m. Pastor Carolyn Shreve will officiate and interment will follow at the Parsons City Cemetery at Parsons, WV.
